There were turf wars from the start. Most British intelligence services did not want Special Operations Executive (SOE) disrupting their own agents' intelligence-gathering operations by blowing up bridges and factories. Other powerful groups, like Bomber Command, also despised SOE and resented loaning them aircraft for their 'unethical' clandestine missions. (Their plan to win the war called for bombing Germany to its knees.) But with Churchill as their guardian angel the SOE survived and fought on for victory....

Churchill's directive, "Set Europe Ablaze," had grand sound to it, but many felt that the diversion of crack military personnel would be a waste. But, faced with propaganda about the "Thousand Year Reich," the Allies felt compelled to create a "second front" of some sort, long before Normandy.

Set Europe Ablaze inside the ATO 2014 Annual captures the spirit and complex choices involved in unsettling Occupied Western Europe. Award-winning designer John Prados, focuses on the action in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands with a card-driven game pitting the Occupying Axis forces against the combination of Allied intelligence efforts and brave local citizens, fighting the shadow war that made "the Maquis" a name to remember proudly.
