Frequently asked questions

Q. What’s your phone number? I want to talk to you.

A. You can call us at (610) 754-0101 Monday through Friday, from 10 AM to 5 PM EST. Our rep, Ed, will service your call, or if you get the answering machine, you can leave a detailed message on it. If you would like to leave an order, clearly state your VISA or Mastercard number, the expiration date of the card, the CVV code from the back, your name (as spelled on the card) and your card's billing address, your shipping address (if different), and what kind of subscription you'd like (deluxe or standard) and with or without this year's Annual. Same thing for back issue orders (standard or deluxe) or boxes (6 piece pack or 30 piece case). Be sure to leave an e-mail address we can send a credit card e-confirmation to, or a callback number in case there's a problem.

Q. Help! I've tried to access my account, view the cart and the checkout page on your site. The reply I receive is my browser cannot connect to your secure web pages.

A. This looks like a security incompatibility problem. There are several versions of SSL and TLS web browser security. We only support the newer web browser versions of encryption that aren't cracked yet (to our knowledge); so when using a browser with settings that are trying to negotiate a cracked version of encryption, then our systems will do you a favor by not allowing a connection. The ATO server only supports TLS 1.2, the current common protocol. The older protocols, SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 ans 1.1, are no longer acceptable to the credit card companies and most financial institutions, and are also vulnerable to known attacks. You can see some more details, including how to change your browser to use the newer versions of encryption, by reading this PDF document. Once you are using the newer encryption, you should be able to get through and make your order. Note that some older browsers and operating systems can't use the newer encryption; you'll need to upgrade to ones that do. The entire financial industry is migrating off those older encryption schemes because they just aren't safe any longer.

Q. Can I submit articles or games for your evaluation?

A. Yes, click on the Submissions link for instructions on how to do this.

Q. Is your new shopping cart ordering system secure?

A. Absolutely! Not only do we use all encrypted pages to gather the data for your order, but we never store your credit card information at our site. It is passed off to one of the payment processors directly (Authorize.Net or PayPal). Look for the "lock" symbol in your browser on the credit card order form screens. No one can see or capture your private credit card details. Plus, you'll receive an e-mail confirmation from us within two business days that your order has been received and successfully charged. Purchase securely with confidence from ATO!

Q. I'm a subscriber, but for whatever reason, the last issue never arrived at my address. What should I do?

A. First, be patient. If you have moved, the Post Office will forward your magazine if you've filed a forwarding address with them. Next, write to admin@atomagazine.com and let them know. If your copy has come back to here marked "undeliverable" in any way, they can resend it out to you. Otherwise, they'll send a replacement copy along with your next issue. If your original copy does eventually show up in the meantime, be sure to let admin know.

Q. I want to renew my subscription now and get the Annual but my current sub has not expired yet. How can I do this safely and avoid receiving double issues?

A. Renew safely at any time. In all cases our system will automatically tack on your renewal to your current subscription and calculate a new expiration issue number (basically your current subscription's expiration number plus four) regardless of what the upper left corner of the website is currently showing you will receive. In addition, if you buy the Annual in this year as part of your subscription, you get this year's Annual, even if your 4 issue subscription stretches into next year.

Q. How often do you publish an issue?

A. We publish four regular issues of ATO Magazine per year, in March, June, September, and December. We also publish an oversize "Annual" edition once per year as well in August. The "Annual" features more pages, a larger game, and will be available separately from the regular subscription price.

Q. Are you guys for real?

A. Yes, some of our staff have been designing, developing and publishing for up to 35 years now.
